5 More Smart Ways to Motivate Yourself to Be Active | MINDSET

You need to be physically active to be healthy. Being active helps your body function at its best. It also has mental and overall health benefits including reducing stress and improving your mood. According to the Department of Health, being physically active:

Reduces the risk of, or help manage, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Reduces the risk of, and assists with rehabilitation from, some cancers.

Maintains and/or improves blood sugar levels, cholesterol, and blood pressure.

Assists with weight loss and prevents unhealthy weight gain

Builds strong bones and muscles.

Helps maintain and develop overall mental and physical well-being.

Create a fitness routine and make it a priority in whichever day you assigned it to. Pick an exercise or physical activity that you enjoy doing. This makes it easier to keep yourself constantly and consistently active.

To help you stay active and be healthy, here’s part 3 of smart ways to motivate yourself to exercise!

1. Compete with anyone next to you

If you love a competition, try out competing with whoever is exercising beside you – but do it secretly. You don’t want to upset anyone! But if you’re working out with a friend, I guess that would be fine.

2. Collect post-race medals

If you’re a runner, you know that at the end of the race you can get a medal. Collect them and that would motivate you to run more.

3. Get addicted to the endorphin rush

Endorphins trigger a positive feeling in the body. After you exercise, your body releases endorphins, which makes you feel good.

4. Reward your successes

By knowing that you’ll get a reward when you reach a particular goal – whether small or long-term – you will be motivated more to reach them. Not only will it improve your work outs, it will also improve your consistency.

5. Tell yourself "I can do this!"

Aside from people who doubt us, we also tend to doubt ourselves. Ignore that voice and instead, tell yourself: "I can do this!"
